Two dogs settled in a Lintran dog transit box, box doors and car tailgate open.

When it’s feeling hot, hot, hot, Lintran dog transit boxes are cool!

We’ve got through one scorching heatwave, but there are more to come. The Met Office is predicting a summer that will be hotter than usual, with a few uncomfortable temperature spikes along the way.

Unfortunately, these heatwaves are tough on our dogs. A sudden rise in temperature means there is no chance to gradually adapt to the heat. There is no end of advice circulating online about dogs and hot weather, along with the signs of overheating to look out for. And most of us are very aware of the risk of leaving a dog unattended in a stationary car, even with windows open.

But what if you can’t avoid taking your dog on a car journey?

On a hot day, you need only be in a car for a few minutes to feel too warm. Driving with windows open, it can still feel like an inferno – aircon is a blessing, unless you’re watching your fuel consumption. Now imagine how your dog will be feeling. It’ll be even more challenging for dogs with long or heavy coats and brachycephalic breeds. For dogs travelling on the back seat, aircon will help. But if they’re in the boot space, the problem becomes bigger – aircon is designed to cool the passenger space. You may feel cool, but your dog could be suffering much sooner than you realise.

Which is why Lintran dog transit boxes are white

White might feel counterintuitive for a dog box, especially when you factor in muddy walks. But an occasional clean of the interior is a small price to pay for your dog’s health and comfort. Lintran dog transit boxes are made with polypropylene, because it’s strong and will withstand the impact of a collision. The other reason we use it – and just as important – is polypropylene’s resistance to heat. So white polypropylene is a win-win! It reflects the sun’s UVA rays and the interior of a Lintran dog box remains cool.

Need more convincing?

The most recent heatwave gave us the chance to prove the point. It was just shy of 30°C and we left two boxes – one white, one black – outside in full sun for half an hour. When we checked the temperature reading on the exteriors, there was a massive 21° difference. The dark box was essentially turning into an oven!

So white polypropylene makes perfect sense. Along with a mesh door, mesh top and ventilation panels, your dog will be happier and more comfortable in a cool, safe and secure space!

Naturally, this does not exclude the need to take regular breaks on a long journey. Your dog will still need to stretch its legs, have access to water and do a pee or poo. But a Lintran dog box makes it much easier and safer to travel with your dog, whether you’re heading for a walk, travelling for a weekend away or driving to a European holiday destination. You can concentrate on the driving, without stressing about your dog’s welfare.
